Circus Horse Dish on Blue & White Glass 4″

$49.00

This bowl is part of our Painted Work equestrian collection of art glass home decor. It is 5″ in diameter.

Creating it was a 5-step process. Two circles of glass were cut to the dimensions of the finished dish. One circle was clear and the other was made up of 3 pieces of glass: dark blue, light blue and white. The two layers were placed in an electric kiln and heated to 1475 degrees, the temperature at which glass melts and the layers fused together. After fusing, the image of the lady on the circus horse was applied using charcoal gray enamel paint. It was fired again to 1375 degrees, the temperature at which the paint matures and adheres to the glass. After cooling, the edge of the piece was ground to eliminate irregularities, and it was fired one more time to 1425 degrees to melt the edge and “fire polish” the rim. At this point the piece was still flat. To give it a bowl shape, the piece was fired one last time, with the glass resting on top of a mold. The temperature of this firing was 1250 degrees. At this temperature the glass softens and gravity caused it to sink into the mold and assume its final shape.

We hope you enjoy this versatile, one-of-a-kind, art glass piece. You can simply admire it on the plate stand we include with it or find a job for it. Use it to hold jewelry, change, or keys. Place a small candle or decorative soap in it. Use it to serve dips and small food items. Whatever you decide, it will be a beautiful complement to your home or an appreciated gift for anyone who enjoys fine things.
